The marbled hatchet. This is a real inhabitant of the upper water layer and can be kept in a smaller aquarium (from approx 60cm). The tank can be well planted, especially floating plants are appreciated, but make sure there is plenty of swimming space in the upper water layer. They also like some flow in the water. Marbled hatchet can jump in the wild up to 2 to 3 meters away! Therefore make sure that the aquarium is always properly closed.
The marbled hatchet is a very peaceful fish that feels most at ease when they are in a school of at least 6. The best way to keep them feeling good is with peaceful smaller fish.
In terms of food, they are not picky. However they only eat from the surface of the water. Food that sinks straight to the bottom is not eaten by the hatchet. Due to its distinct appearance and friendly features, the hatchet has been popular in the aquarium world for many years and they will remain popular for many years to come.
